The Sony-Microsoft battle is still ongoing over the Call of Duty game. The latest of these clashes was yesterday, when Microsoft failed to convince Sony to accept a contract to provide the game for the next 10 years on PlayStation platforms in exchange for allowing the deal to go through.
Yesterday, Tuesday, through one of the private meetings, the president of Microsoft Corporation spoke Brad Smith The end of Sony's contract with Activision over the game.
Smith said in an interview with CNBC television yesterday, Tuesday, that Sony's agreement with Activision to jointly promote and release exclusive content for the game on PlayStation platforms will expire next year, 2023.
This means that the joint promotion and exclusive content of the Call of Duty game released on PlayStation platforms will be stopped completely by the end of next year. At that point, the matter will depend on the status of the acquisition, which, if completed in this case, will not release any of the game parts on PlayStation platforms.
This also means that the next installment, Call of Duty 2024, will be the last in the series to receive promotion and exclusive content on PlayStation platforms.
Smith added that the 10-year deal, which Sony refuses to approve, also extends its exclusive agreements with Activision, with more special offers that make it better than the current deal. Smith said:
I think anyone who looks at this will say it's a better deal for Sony than what they have now with Activision Blizzard.
During his Tuesday conference in Brussels, Smith also said that Microsoft has reached a deal with Nvidia to bring Xbox PC games to Nvidia GeForce Now. That would include Activision Blizzard games like Call of Duty, Diablo IV and others if the $1.4 billion acquisition goes through.
It also agreed with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty games to the company's future platforms for the next 10 years.
