Dragon's Dogma 2's director has warned players about the importance of protecting their favorite NPCs in the game, noting that the developer takes death seriously and isn't afraid to kill off characters.
Dragon's Dogma 2 director Hideaki Itsuno, along with producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, discussed more important details about NPCs in an interview with Automaton, when asked if the sequel would also feature an "Affinity" mechanic like the first installment, which relates to level relationships. And the friendships between players and NPC characters scattered throughout the game's world, of which the director revealed that there will be many this time around.
Itsuno continued:
“Introducing all these characters with the affinity mechanic was almost the main reason we made the game open world,” “There will be a lot of events that may or may not happen depending on the level of affinity or relationship with other characters, and the relationships between characters will also be important.”
The part related to the death of these characters, as the director highlighted, is considered an important part and a regular occurrence that you may not be able to avoid completely, and it requires a lot of focus, care and continuity in checking the characters.
Itsuno warns players:
“If there is an NPC you like in town, you will need to protect them during combat or grab them and run away,” but then Hirabayashi assured fans of the series that the revival item, Wakestones, is also present in Dragon's Dogma 2 like the first part, so even if “one of these characters has died, all is not lost.”
Hirabayashi added:
“When it comes to death, we take it very seriously because it greatly affects how we act.” “If the game world was devoid of death, I think players would be irresponsible and indifferent to their actions.”
It is worth mentioning that the game Dragon Dogma 2 will be released on March 22 on current generation platforms.
