After years of waiting and waiting, Capcom's masterpiece that changed the concept of horror and survival games in the past has returned to us, and it has finally been released this time in the form of an incredible remake titled Resident Evil Remake… was it worth all those years of waiting?

Welcome to the Resident Evil Remake review and rating

Resident Evil Remake Game Overview

In general, the fourth part of this famous series is the cornerstone of a new and completely different direction from the parts of the Resident Evil series released before it, and here we are talking about the original game released in January 2005, and is one of the most powerful games of the veteran Japanese director. Shinji Mikami.

The game's new direction at the time was a shift from a fixed camera system to a third-person camera system. This particular installment was a turning point in the series' history due to its willingness and ambition for change, and it has returned to us again in the form of a remake with the same style and general direction.

The story of the game

Unfortunately, there haven't been any major or significant changes to the remastered game's story. Of course, we don't want to spoil the game's events or the new scenes that have been added to the story, but trust me, don't expect any major changes that will affect the game's events and progress.

What we can officially confirm is that the developer worked to improve the narrative and add some modifications to many of the game's events, as a large amount of dialogue was changed and new cinematics were added. The events are generally familiar to most players and center around a specific point. Six years after the events of Resident Evil 2, Leon, a survivor of the Raccoon City crash, is sent to an isolated village in Europe to investigate the disappearance of the US President's daughter. What he finds there is unlike anything he's encountered before.

Graphics, physics and sounds

The first thing you'll notice in the game is the incredible detail that made me wander through that wretched village filled with blood and dead animals, and the smell of mildew everywhere. Soft, and the wonderful filter used to support the game's colors.

Leon can now interact more with the game's surroundings. That's not all, the game's physics have been significantly improved compared to the previous remake. You'll hear many rich ambient sounds that will immerse you deeply in the game world, such as the sounds of birds, suspicious crows, and the creaking of wind passing through tree branches and through the holes in houses. Yes, that's what you'll hear. Gunshot sounds have also been significantly improved, and character voices and lip movements are improved.

Unfortunately, all that battery life you read about above will gradually disappear as you progress and reach the midpoint of the game. I mean, the developer put a lot of emphasis on developing the game world in the village and lake area, full of secrets and exploration elements. This gradual decline you'll witness also includes a variety of details and many frustrating things, like distant "background" views that have become devoid of detail.

Resident Evil refilmagem

Capcom used its own RE Engine in the game's development, which has proven successful in many of the company's hit titles, including Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5, as well as Resident Evil 7. It's well-suited to accommodate more current-generation titles to explore its technical capabilities. Provided the developer cares about it.

Game style and system

As mentioned above, the game did not differ much in style and gameplay mechanics from the original part, as it maintained its original general orientation and violated recent remake versions by adopting a control camera and portraying a third-person perspective, which tired me a bit of suspicious slow motion at first, but I soon got used to the controls, unfortunately you can't play in first person.

The beauty is that many players will be fully aware of the basic storylines and events of the game, which will make them more immersed in the combat and gameplay and will try to explore the environment despite its limitations.

The developer tried to make the game world more spacious by adding more roads and some areas, as well as making the village larger than the original version. They added some unique exploration elements seen in God of War, which you'll experience in the Lake District.

The most prominent things in the gameplay mechanics that Capcom introduced in Remake Part IV are the elements of stealth and assassination, and the freedom to choose encounters in many cases, in addition to the apparent diversity in gameplay in terms of performing attacks, performing assassinations, defending, and confronting the knife, which is one of the rich additions to the Play mechanic, in addition to exploring the surrounding environment in front of enemies.

To focus more on the rest of the important and miscellaneous notes related to the game, we will now discuss the most important advantages and disadvantages that we have seen in our long experience with it, which are as follows.

Resident Evil Remake Review

Positives

  • The developer agreed to reimagine and design many areas within the game environment, especially in the early areas, specifically the overall design of the village and lake areas.

  • Overall, the game has incredible visual graphics and technology, both in terms of shadows and detail accuracy.

  • You can interact with the environment better than the original part and also a bit better than the previous remake versions.

  • The game has excellent frame rate stability, which contributes to improving the gaming experience.

  • The game's sounds are very well done, both in terms of the characters' lip movements and the sounds of the surrounding environment that immerse you. Even the soundtrack for escapes and confrontations.

  • The game has a better exploration system than the previous installments, despite its limitations, and also contains a bunch of easy puzzles and many different treasures that you need to find a way to unlock.

  • Considerable number of hours of gameplay, during which the game developer avoided the mistakes of playing the third part for you and avoided deleting any area or parts of it, but added more.

  • Quick Time Events are much smaller, reducing unnecessary clutter. While still maintaining control.

  • Variety of enemies with quite acceptable AI for infected humans, especially the annoying Saw-Man and Piggy-Man.

  • Support the Arabic language by translating texts and menus well.

Negatives

  • The story of the game did not have the plot we expected as you will feel that the developer was afraid to make the necessary change that might not satisfy the players.

  • Some various technical issues, for example, you will find illogical lighting in many rooms and corners of the game.

  • The camera and some of the character movement mechanics you control will make you feel dizzy at times, and it might be because of the slow movement, and this shows up when you try to avoid enemies coming after you.

  • Who said Ashley's character won't be as annoying this time around! Despite the addition of the zoom-in/zoom-out feature?

  • The game has no tracking feature and he also cannot shoot while traversing, which further limits mobility, combat and stealth.

  • The game's survival elements aren't very diverse. It doesn't encourage exploration or replayability.

Final rating – 8.4

Very good

Overall, and far from thrilling, the Resident Evil Remake managed to satisfy its die-hard fans and stood out for its many impressive technical and visual aspects, while failing to replicate the success of the original version. Daring to make a major change on several levels. And not just for the visual aspect, it deserves to be the starting point for the demand for a fifth remake.
