A new cooling system for the PS5 SSD with intelligent high-efficiency technology

Graugear, in partnership with Sony, has revealed a new cooling system for the PS5 SSD. The new cooling unit is designed to significantly reduce the temperature of the attached storage drive, thereby improving efficiency and performance.
The company that developed the new cooling system, which it named PS5HS01-Cov, has an improved heat dissipation system, through the use of double copper and aluminum shielding.
Previously, the same company introduced the G-PS5HS04 cover, which is an aluminum cover, while the PS5HS01-Cov contains less aluminum than the previous one, as well as a copper heat pipe with a length of 7mm. This copper pipe was deliberately made longitudinally to allow it to be cooled by a PlayStation 5 fan.
This method can provide more opportunity for faster and greater heat dissipation by cooling the pipe through the airflow going towards the fan, removing heat from the aluminum cover and significantly reducing the temperature of the SSD drive.
According to official statements from Graugear, this new technology will reduce the temperature by an additional 15 to 25 degrees compared to the technology used in the previous cover, G-PS5HS04. This, of course, will greatly and effectively improve the performance of the SSD storage unit in the PS5.
The new PS5HS01-Cov refrigeration unit is currently sold in some European countries at a price of 37.69 euros, which represents an increase of 10 euros compared to its successor, the G-PS5HS04.
It is worth noting that Sony has enabled the use of SSD expansion on the PS5 since last year as part of a new update released for the system at the time. The additional storage unit provides the user with a data transfer efficiency equivalent to that integrated into the device and, therefore, the user can store and play PS5 games directly through it.
PS5 compatible SSD storage
- Type: M.2 SSD
- Driver interface: PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD
- Minimum capacity: 250 GB
- Maximum capacity: 4TB
- Data read speed: 5,500 MB/s or faster
There are many companies that provide SSD storage units that are compatible with the PlayStation 5, with WD standing out as offering various capacities at good prices.
