It looks like Capcom won't be releasing a new installment in the Resident Evil survival action horror series in 2024, which will break its successful five-year streak of annual releases.
It was the first Remake of the classic part 2 Resident Evil 2, released in 2019, was considered a masterpiece praised by both critics and players, and Capcom's reason was probably to think about continuing to release remake games for their beloved classic games in the series, and the company continued to release strong games for the series since then until its end. With a remake of the fourth part in 2023.
Going back through the series' history since the release of the original first installment in 1996, new installments have appeared during close periods, but there have only been five that have been devoid of any new Resident Evil installments, namely 1997, 2008, 2013, 2014, and 2018.
With Resident Evil being one of Capcom’s biggest game series and receiving special attention due to its popularity and massive success, it makes sense for the company to work hard to ensure new games are released regularly. The consistency of the Resident Evil series after all these years is truly impressive.
So, some fans of the series might be sad that they might not get anything new about their favorite series in 2024, as Capcom hasn't announced a new Resident Evil release for this year, but if recent rumors are to be believed, there is a possibility that Capcom will reveal Resident Evil 9 sometime in the near future, with the game being released in January 2025 as well based on rumors.
Rumor: Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica remakes are in development and RE9 has been delayed!
In addition to Resident Evil 9, rumors have also indicated that Capcom is preparing to release a remake of the Resident Evil 5 game starring Chris Redfield and his partner Shiva Al-Omar. The original fifth installment is actually one of the best-selling Resident Evil games, due to its support for group co-op play and the great excitement that it presented at that stage at the time, which was a dream come true for many fans of the series.
The Resident Evil games released over five consecutive years are:
- Resident Evil 2 – 2019
- Resident Evil 3 – 2020
- Resident Evil: Resistance – 2020
- Resident Evil Village – 2021
- Resident Evil Re: Verso – 2022
- Resident Evil 4 – 2023
Unfortunately, it looks like the streak of surprising and successful releases will be interrupted this year, unless Capcom announces an unexpected surprise!
