Blizzard has released a large blog post looking back on the first week of Overwatch 2, as well as addressing some feedback and issues. First off, despite the calls for buffs and nerfs, Blizzard says that none of the heroes are seriously outperforming the others, as they all have a fairly similar win rate. (opens in new tab). And hilariously, if you've been placed in competitive at a lower rank than you think you deserve, it might not be your fault.
Due to this blunder, Blizzard apologized (opens in new tab) for those players who ranked lower than expected. In fact, there was a bug that was causing some players to rank much lower than they should have, so if you're in Bronze five, you might be hoping to get out of there quickly.
“We discovered a bug that was affecting players’ skill ratings, which contributed to many players being placed in Bronze 5 when they should have been placed higher,” the post reads. “Our latest patch included a fix that will help you quickly get back to your true rank, and this will be reflected the next time you receive a competitive rank update. You will receive a boost as you continue to play to help you climb to the correct ranks. Players who have not yet ranked in competitive will not experience this issue once the fix is released.”
I mean, at least some people have an excuse now, right? It's a little annoying that there's no immediate way to determine where people should be placed, and that they still need to rank up, but at least the bug has been squashed.
Additionally, this section addresses that some players are already giving developers feedback on how the game should celebrate their skill levels and divisions. There are changes in the works for this, but Blizzard doesn't have anything to share at this time.
