stated Jim Ryan The head of PlayStation, in a new interview, stated that he wants his games to reach hundreds of millions of people around the world, indicating that this will not happen if his games remain exclusive only on his own platforms.
Speaking at GI Live: London, he angrily said through Ryan that video games could not compete with other forms of entertainment such as music and movies. where he said:
“I would like to see a world where tens of millions of people could enjoy the games we create on PlayStation. Maybe hundreds of millions of people. The success now with the current console model, and it’s a very good success with PlayStation, you’re talking about ten or 20 million people being able to play that game…”
Ryan, despite the success and publicity achieved by the PlayStation brand, wants to see his games compete in terms of attendance with other works of art, such as music and cinema, which attract hundreds of millions.
Of course, Ryan believes this may not happen if his games remain exclusive to PlayStation platforms, suggesting that this cycle needs to be broken and a wider circle created that includes personal computers, smartphones and perhaps other platforms.
Sony has recently started releasing some of its big titles on PC, such as God of War, Days Gone, Horizon Zero Dawn, and others. Some of these titles have started to achieve great popularity, although one of the conditions for their release outside of PlayStation is that a year or more has passed since their first release.
However, this does not rule out that we will see some titles released on the day and time they are released on PlayStation, especially the titles of the live service, which some PlayStation studios and their partners work on a large number of.
This idea could expand to some big exclusive story titles in the future, as Ryan has previously hinted that things could change depending on the current situation.
Ryan's constant talk about his goals for PlayStation games to reach a wide audience could be a clear indication of his effort to persuade Sony's decision-makers to release their already big titles from day one on PC and possibly other platforms.
