We know that home devices always get a version dedicated to developers of the Dev Kit, which contains several components and also has a different look from the final version, and that is what we will see with the developer version of the PS4 Pro, which has been obtained by one of the famous media channels.
The Gamers Nexus channel, as usual, managed to get hold of this rare version of the mid-generation Sony 4 device and review its internal components, as well as the operating system, in addition to comparing it with the size of the final commercial version.
The PS4 Pro Developer Edition Dev Kit comes much larger in size compared to the final consumer version, due to the presence of more functions that are available to developers for ease of use during game development and tweaking on the device.
One of the things that caught our attention when analyzing the developer version is that it contains a random memory (RAM) of up to 16 GB, which is double the random memory available in the final version, which is only 8 GB.
Additionally, the device's cooling system, which appeared to consist of large tubes connected to the device's main cooling system, suggests that the processing unit may have been more powerful and performed more functions than the base version's processor.
Finally, the operating system that comes in the Dev Kit version of the PS4 Pro device, which looks like the operating system of the final version, but with more functions for developers such as Debug features and others.
Apparently, based on usage history, the device was first launched in 2017, the year in which the PS4 Pro was launched on the market.
As we can see in the video, the operating system was disabled, as the user was unable to play games in the developer version again, or even log into their own account on the PSN network, and it seems that Sony connects these devices to a unified server system via the Internet that allows them to be remotely controlled and disabled.
Either way, it seems interesting that we'll take a tour to review the internals and externals of the PS4 Pro developer version and learn more about how developers tune their games for consumer operating systems through this video.
