Rocksteady released its new game Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League after a series of delays. Did it manage to give players patience after Batman's absence?
Rocksteady is known for delivering well-directed narrative games, but with Suicide Squad, they've branched out into a new genre called the looter shooter, featuring a fast-paced combat system. In our analysis below, we'll explore whether the team's decision to make this shift was a good one.
After delivering the popular Batman trilogy adventure, Rocksteady shifted its focus from story-driven games to the online shooter genre with Suicide Squad, which pits players against villains disguised as heroes battling heroes disguised as villains.
To enjoy Suicide Squad, you must forget the past!
If you want to enjoy the Suicide Squad game experience and avoid all the hype, you should forget the past, especially the Batman trilogy, which had a rainy, heavy atmosphere, a dark, powerful story, and influential central characters. To make things a little clearer, the game isn't as bad as people say. Instead, you should just give it a chance, as it might just satisfy your cravings.
To fully experience the game, you should think of it as an online game, offering a reasonably good 4-player experience, along with good humor, sarcastic commentary, and fast-paced gunplay. This may not seem like a huge change, but consider the game from this perspective, and you'll find it has something to keep players engaged.
Fast-paced action vs. fast-paced cutscenes!
One of the things that makes shooters competitive is cinematic cutscenes. The Rocksteady team has mastered this element, making the cutscenes fast-paced and comprehensible for players. On the other hand, character movement is fast-paced, and enemies are present in almost every direction and location, and this is where the player's focus comes into play.
Gameplay Style: The most prominent feature of this gameplay style is the regular missions, some of which are more linear and others require research and exploration. Most importantly, they are tied to the story and don't stray too far from the events and atmosphere, constantly keeping the player from getting distracted.
One of the game's annoying aspects is its repetition, which significantly impacted its quality and even ruined many aspects of the story. All of the game's missions are completely devoid of creativity. Kill 20 people, follow the bus or accompany it, save a group of hostages, etc. This system is part of this type of game called A1, which stands for very direct.
In fact, the game world is dull and boring, and with repetitive tasks, the player won't stay playing for long. Worse still, there are numerous communication issues that interrupt the player's environment and prevent them from continuing for long. In other words, your patience will run out!
There's a simple positive that can outweigh all the negatives mentioned: the ability to quickly find other players and play with them in a group of four. We conclude here that the true fun of the game and its true essence lies in playing with others, although it's a step that doesn't always work out and requires a subscription. PS Plus or Game Pass on home consoles, which means an increase in expenses, so to speak.
Shoot fast and accurately!
The game's combat system is another strong point; the controls are impeccable, and enemy battles are fast-paced and fun. Regardless of the weapon type or character you play, you'll find this element enjoyable.
Each character in the game has their own fighting methods, weapons, and special abilities. Even the movement mechanics of each character are different. For example, Dead Shot can move using special jets on his back, while Harley Queen uses a grappling hook, and so on.
Some characters use fast combat using rapid-fire weapons, other characters move very slowly, but the development team is kind to players' choices and tastes in the end.
While the characters differ in appearance, weapons, and combat system, the shooting and aiming are similar for all, making it difficult to truly differentiate between the characters and their styles. One of the recurring drawbacks is the chaos of battles that occur suddenly and without warning, leaving the player confused and unsure for a few moments. What are they doing?
The chaos is very annoying, especially with the game's fast pace, and sometimes the ambiguity of the tasks makes you feel for a moment like the game has no real purpose. Even when you complete a task's requirements, you'll feel lost and without clear directions. This issue bothered me a lot and made me repeat many tasks to progress through the game.
Good game, but there are big problems!
The Rocksteady team has shown that developing service games is never easy, especially with so much support for them with post-launch content for a long time. The team's decision to develop this type of game was a poor one, unfortunately, and it would have been better off if they had stuck with the old approach, as lore dictates.
It's strange to see such obvious flaws in the game, even though it's been delayed more than once for further refinement and work. In fact, it takes years for live service games to avoid the obvious flaws of Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League.
That's not to say the game isn't good, just that it lacks the substance that makes it understandably cohesive rather than extremely chaotic, but that doesn't stop it from providing entertainment from time to time.
Good graphics despite the almost empty world!
Speaking of the game's graphics, they were very good, and managed to stand out, even if only slightly, compared to current-generation games, even though its world was relatively empty compared to the Batman games, which were full of vitality, lights, and incredible detail, while the focus was on the character designs with their details and costumes. To a certain extent.
