Over the past period, we have heard about many patents implemented by Sony from time to time. The company, according to its latest patent, is working on creating some insignificance in users’ digital images, or what is called an “avatar”.
In the company's latest patent, we see a patent dedicated to the "avatar" that is present in PlayStation devices in general, as it will be three-dimensional and will display the feelings of the players, thus providing a new way for players to interact with each other as part of the communities on the platform, such as publishing the most highlighted videos.
In terms of player emotions, Sony is designing a new facial recognition technology and scanning it to look for different expressions from the user, whether they are happy or sad and things like that, and then the mood will be put into the digital image attached to the profile picture, but projected with a 3D “avatar”.
Designing facial expressions with 3D characters is not something unique, we already saw it with the iPhone X phones released in 2017. What's interesting is that it's with a big brand like Sony and on a home gaming platform.
Taking a step back, we see a unique “what if” system that identifies and displays hypothetical game scenarios relevant to the player’s context. In other words, predicting the possibilities that the player might pursue if they so choose, and this will of course be appropriate with games that offer more than one path to completing tasks.
So that different possibilities can be studied. We hope to see any of these inventions in action someday.
