At GDC 2024, Denuvo security developer Irdeto has introduced TraceMark, a new solution that combats content leaks. Using watermarking technology, game developers and others can trace leaked content back to its source.
“With the launch of TraceMark technology, we are setting a new standard for anti-piracy in the gaming industry. This innovative solution not only represents a major milestone for Irdeto, but also represents a leap forward in protecting the creative and financial investments in gaming.”
TraceMark is integrated into different stages of the game and should discourage leakers. For maximum protection, game developers can also use SecureDLC against hacker attacks on content. The company continues to work on Denuvo despite negative feedback about this system among players as it reduces performance, as the Irdeto studio disagrees with this, claiming that there is no tangible impact on the game.
It should be noted that the new Denuvo technology can be very useful, since some companies have been affected by these leaks, such as Insomniac Games, during 2023 due to ransomware, since the leak revealed the company's next five games, describing the project roadmap until 2030. But the presence of TraceMark as a technology will continue to be a topic. Welcome as a way to prevent new leaks in many cases, which increases security in the gaming industry.
Do you think we'll see greater use of the protection system in question in future games, dear reader?
