Nintendo has released its earnings report for the third quarter ending September 30, 2022, which always includes, as is customary for Nintendo, sales figures for games and its hybrid platform. The Nintendo Switch has now sold more than 114.33 million copies worldwide.

Sales rose from 111.08 million copies at the end of the previous quarter. Throughout the third quarter, Nintendo Switch sold more than 3.25 million copies. Total sales of the platform in the first half of the fiscal year, that is, from March to September last year, reached 6.68 million copies, a decrease of 19.2% compared to the previous year.

Nintendo justifies this with the current global shortage of semiconductors, which continues to put constraints on the supply and sales of hardware, and as such, the company revised its forecast for total hardware sales for the current fiscal year, reducing it from 21 million units to 19 million.

Asian markets and the Japanese market in particular have always been Nintendo's main stronghold through its Switch, both in terms of device and game sales, and despite these sales, Sony ranks second with the PlayStation 5.

This brings PlayStation 5 sales to 5.7 million units during the first half of fiscal 2022. It's still far from Sony's target of selling 18 million units by the end of the current fiscal year on March 31, 2023.
