It has become very difficult for Forspoken to be included in the list of the best games of this year. There are many reasons shared by players, one of them was the weak story, and for that reason this title received a lot of criticism for technical issues as well, but the author of the story has something to say in its defense.
Writer Gary Whitta He was credited on Forspoken and named on the team at the end. But he recently appeared on a podcast episode to state that he didn't actually have much to do with the game's story and dialogue. In the interview, he admitted that he was approached by Square Enix and Luminous to write the game's story, but claimed that his "own story" was pitched instead and didn't make it into the final product.
Usually, when a certain game fails, the gaming community starts attacking the members of the development team. This is what author Gary mentioned, who said the following:
“The game that was released is nothing like I intended it to be. I built my fundamental world very early in the game. Where Square came to me five or six years ago and said they had this idea, and I asked them if they would be willing to help us build the world, the mythology, and the story. So eventually Luminous decided to change the story of the game to be more about interdimensional portals.”
“A few months later, they came back to me and one of the other writers and said we're going to start over and rewrite the story completely, we want it to be the way it is now.
The problem at the time was that neither I nor the other writer were available anymore, and they wanted us to write everything..
We all remember how it was reported that the game Forspoken strayed from its path during the development process, which made it lose its identity as the game became significantly different from how it started due to what was said about the departure of its director, Hajime Tabata, from Luminous Studio, its developer. 2018.
However, constant pressure from players may have led him to make these statements. Do you really think the writer cannot be blamed in the circumstances he mentioned?
