We have not cancelled any games on PlayStation

Microsoft was quick to respond to the news of the cancellation of the PS5 version of Redfall. Where it said that it has not canceled work on any game for the PlayStation platform.

It is worth mentioning that the Redfall game would be released on the PS5, according to the director of Arkane Studio, responsible for the development of the game. Where it was said that the copy was canceled after a period of work without prior notice due to the acquisition of the studio and its parent company by Microsoft.

It seems Microsoft's response came without delay, as it said via a report relayed by Eurogamer:

In fact, the platform holder believes it has actually expanded our footprint of games that we have released on Sony's PlayStation since the ZeniMax acquisition, and the first two games we released after the lockout were PlayStation 5 exclusives.

Here, of course, he's referring to Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo, as the report goes on to discuss how Microsoft hasn't canceled any pre-existing Bethesda games on PS5 and PS4 since acquiring Bethesda, and content updates continue to arrive for PS5 and PS4.

This is in response to Arkane Studio's creative director Harvey Smith claiming that a PS5 version of Redfall was in development a year before Microsoft bought the company. It was revealed earlier this week that after Microsoft bought Bethesda, the company came out and said, "No PS5," because it's focusing on the Xbox, PC, and Game Pass versions.

However, when it comes to Microsoft expanding its gaming footprint, it seems to make a lot of sense. Sony had exclusivity deals with Bethesda before it was bought by Microsoft, so Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo would end up being PlayStation exclusives. From Microsoft's perspective, its deal to buy Bethesda has nothing to do with that.
