Microsoft is preparing to join the big game publishers and raise the prices of its top Xbox games from $$60 to $$70.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to IGN that starting in 2023, games developed for the current-generation Xbox Series X|S, including titles like Forza Motorsport, Redfall, and Starfield, will cost $69.99 at launch.
Microsoft did not provide any other details about the nature of pricing in other countries, but the spokesperson confirmed that regional pricing may vary from place to place, and the company spokesperson added:
This price reflects the content, size and technical complexity of these titles.
As with all games developed by our teams for Xbox, they will also be available with Game Pass the same day they launch.
Microsoft certainly isn't the first company to do this. Earlier this year, Sony, Take-Two Interactive, and most recently Ubisoft all announced they were raising their game prices to $1,400 for new titles.
Of course, this price increase comes as no surprise, as the Xbox boss Phil Spencer He said earlier this year that the company wouldn't be able to maintain its prices forever, but Xbox wouldn't raise prices until the 2023 holiday season. It's also interesting to see if the price of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S will increase as well.
In October of this year, he spoke spencer About that and confirmed that they have set the price of their console, and also the price of games and subscriptions, but they don't think they'll be able to do it forever. Where at some point, he thinks they need to increase some prices on certain things.
