Microsoft continues to seek evidence and proof that its size in the video game market is too weak to complete the acquisition of Activision. In its latest statements, the company mentioned in its defense of its deal that EA is Sony's largest third-party company.
Microsoft has said that Activision is not the big third-party company that is so important to Sony. And the latter's defense and attempt to prevent it from merging with Microsoft is illogical. The company said that both EA and Ubisoft precede Activision in terms of importance to the Japanese team as the biggest third-party companies.
In its response to the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), Microsoft revealed that EA’s sportsbook is the largest third-party provider when it comes to platform games. It’s followed by Ubisoft and Take-Two. While Microsoft stresses that this is the case for PlayStation, the number is similar to that for Xbox as well.
This means that whether or not Activision is acquired is not related to whether or not it is the largest third-party game publisher, as Sony itself is the fourth-largest game publisher, surpassing Activision Blizzard, which ranks fifth. Microsoft said:
“Sony has 286 PlayStation exclusives and keeps its first-party games almost entirely exclusive to its platform..”
This controversy and disagreement between the two companies will likely continue until further notice, specifically until a final judgment is made on the results of the deal. Do you think Activision will eventually join Microsoft?
