Marvel's Avengers will officially end support in 2023

In the days leading up to its release, Marvel fans and gamers alike were expecting Marvel's Avengers to be a big deal for developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix. Unfortunately, the game didn't live up to expectations.

The game has been actively revamped over the past two years with a ton of content, but things seem to be coming to an end as Crystal Dynamics is set to drop any support it provides to the title in 2023. This is indicated by a new report from Exputer, written by Miller Ross, a reliable Marvel's Avengers insider, who claims that the developer has no plans to introduce new content for its game in 2024.

The developer has already made good on its promise, offering 3-5 years of post-launch support for Marvel's Avengers. We haven't said the game is shutting down yet, but this report indicates that it won't receive any more content or new characters after 2023. It will completely cease to be a live service title, but if player numbers continue to decline by the day, as they have been doing for some time, I suspect it won't be long before the game is shut down permanently.

Despite Marvel's massive popularity and the release of Marvel's Avengers roughly a year after Endgame, the game unfortunately failed to achieve the desired success or critical acclaim that the developer and publisher had hoped for, largely due to the game's technical performance at launch and a number of disappointments with additional content.
