During yesterday's episode of PlayStation, Japanese company Capcom revisited the living world of Monster Hunter Wilds during PlayStation's State of Play broadcast, with the first in-depth look at the highly anticipated RPG game.
The trailer showcased a wild landscape filled with new monsters adapting to the ever-changing conditions of their rugged habitat. Vivid new footage reveals for the first time the story, characters, systems, and more.
Capcom also revealed special additional items that Monster Hunter: World players can obtain when Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series
In Monster Hunter Wilds, players join a special research team investigating forbidden lands. For the first time in the Monster Hunter series, the Hunter embarks on a journey into the unknown with companions including Alma, a guild-recruited assistant, a Palico companion, and a mysterious child. Monster Hunter Wilds features multidimensional environments that can transform in unexpected ways. The first location revealed is the Windward Plains, a vast region that includes inhospitable deserts, twisted rock formations, and grasslands teeming with life.
These immersive ecosystems are teeming with wildlife adapted to their environments, including small animals like Dalthedon, a herbivore that migrates seasonally, and Ceratonoths, which rely on males to protect their herds from violent storms with sophisticated dorsal horns that act as lightning rods. Of course, larger beasts also roam the Windward Plains, including Doshaguma.
Although large and territorial, these fanged beasts are sometimes seen roaming the plains in aggressive packs. Meanwhile, the mighty Chatacabra frog uses its environment and its sticky saliva to become a more powerful foe, coating its body in natural materials such as ore.
To help hunters face the challenges that await them in Monster Hunter Wilds, the series’ beloved gameplay has been evolved with a host of new features. Players will experience a seamless flow from story sequences to seamless gameplay. To traverse these vast environments, the game introduces Secret Creatures, a new type of mount.
These agile creatures can guide their riders to their destinations and allow hunters to perform tasks on the move, such as sharpening weapons, gathering materials, and nocking arrows. Hunters can also switch their secondary weapon while riding the Secret, allowing hunting parties to adapt to changing field conditions without having to return to base.
All 14 iconic weapon types from the Monster Hunter Wilds series return and have evolved to include new actions. Additionally, the game introduces entirely new systems such as Focus Mode, giving Hunters more precise control over aiming, defending, and attacking monsters’ weak points. The Grappling Dart also provides Hunters with additional abilities, including contextual actions and the ability to collect items from a distance – even while setting up a Secret.
Monster Hunter Wilds players who link their save data from Monster Hunter: World can obtain special bonus items. These include a set of Velaine leather armor (Palico Armor), a Velaine Acorn Shovel (Palico Weapon) for attaching base game save data to Monster Hunter: World, and a set of Velaine cloth armor (Pa Armor).
