Gears 6 appears to be in development, as suggested by a former director.

There have been several hints that Gears 6 is in development recently from several fairly reliable sources. But now we've received a direct hint from a former series director who worked on the first two installments, as he hints at his return and hints at a sequel.

Joshua Ortega The director of the first two installments of the Gears of War series, exclusive to Xbox and Microsoft, and the producer and designer of the third and third installments, has hinted that Gears 6 is in development. Ortega recently took to Twitter to interact with his fans, and there he stated what is said to be a hint of his return for season six.

In a series of tweets, Ortega said he wrote and directed the sequel to the series, as well as working on the compilation tasks for the game. In addition to his assistance and co-direction on the third installment, and here comes the fun part.

The director shared his own series of tweets, writing, “Once again, we will do this,” or so his tweet indicated. This means that Microsoft is considering returning the series to its roots in the upcoming sixth installment, bringing back the director who contributed to the construction of the series.

In previous news, and during an episode of Game Mess Mornings, a Giant Bomb reporter said Jeff Group The Canadian Xbox Studio is now fully operational on the sixth installment.

The series' developer, Coalition, said in May 2021 that it was preparing to transition to developing a next-gen project. It will be developed using Unreal Engine 5. Shortly after, a LinkedIn profile for one of the studio's level designers revealed that they were working on an entirely new title. This news came after the same team canceled two projects that were in development.
