Firesprite, one of Sony PlayStation's largest teams, has confirmed that it is one of the studios affected by the layoffs made by Sony last February.
Firesprite made a statement on the platform X, Like many other PlayStation Studios teams, Firesprite was affected by layoffs announced in February of this year.
“The last few months have been extremely difficult for our company as we have gone through a difficult and lengthy consultation process. During this time, we have focused on helping everyone affected by these troubling conditions.”
The layoffs reported by Firesprite were carried out by Sony last February, which at the time announced the layoff of 900 people within its PlayStation division. This led to the definitive closure of London Studio, the team responsible for several VR games with multiplayer service, which would never see the light of day.
As for Firesprite Studio, the studio was acquired in 2021 when at the time it had around 250 developers, a much larger number than many other companies on UK soil. In return, the company acquired Fabrik Games that same year, expanding its workforce. Currently, according to rumors and leaks, the team is working on a PS5-exclusive horror game, and it seems that a movie will be produced about it as well.
Most studios in the industry are suffering from layoffs and it seems that companies will not be ending the side effects any time soon.
