F1 Manager 2022 underperforms developer expectations

All F1 fans have been treated to a double dose of their annual game, with Frontier Developments joining the fray with the title F1 Manager 2022 to join Codemasters' exceptional series umbrella.

For all its efforts… the management simulation title doesn’t seem to be doing very well on its own, at least from a commercial standpoint. Frontier Developments revealed in its recently published financial report that F1 Manager 2022 has sold over 600,000 copies since its launch in August last year.

The developer stated that while player engagement numbers were roughly in line with projects at launch and in the initial post-launch period, the game ended up performing “measurably” below expectations over the holidays, “in part due to increased player price sensitivity during deteriorating economic conditions.”

Frontier Developments says that while previous releases such as Jurassic World Evolution, Jurassic World Evolution 2, Planet Zoo, Planet Coaster and Elite Dangerous continued to perform in line with expectations, lower-than-normal sales in F1 Manager 2022 have caused the developer to cut its overall revenue.

In October, a few weeks after the game's release, Frontier Developments announced that the game would no longer receive support, but was available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
