The Last of Us continues to generate record viewership across all its episodes, even those that received poor reviews. However, the eighth episode, released Monday morning, achieved a record audience.

According to HBO, episode 8 of The Last of Us was watched over 8.1 million times since its premiere on HBO Max. For those who tuned in, that's a 74% increase over the series' first episode.

Meanwhile, HBO reports that the average viewership for the series' first five episodes is now close to 30 million viewers across all platforms. Although the numbers for the fifth, sixth, and seventh episodes were not reported separately, the fourth episode has garnered 7.5 million views since its release, making it the series' highest-grossing audience before the eighth episode.

In addition to these impressive numbers, the series retained its title as HBO Max's top producer for the eighth consecutive week. Even Neil Druckmann, the series' creative director, wouldn't have predicted such an achievement.

In other news, the eighth episode split audiences in two, some loving it, while others were shocked by its events. The reasons for this are many, including Ellie's courage and her stand up for herself and Jules, as well as the number of emotional scenes at the end of the episode, which have been described as the most intense in the entire series so far.

We'd like to remind you that the second season of the series will begin filming soon, said Pedro Pascal, the actor who plays Joule. What do you think of the eighth episode, if you've watched it?
