The Overwatch title in general took a leap forward at the time of its release in 2016, and is the only game in the last decade to win Game of the Year over others, but it looks like Overwatch 2 aspires to be as huge as its predecessor, adding some interesting things for players, most notably the character Ramattra coming to the game with the game's second season.
In fact, we got an exclusive interview with Blizzard with Art Director Dion Rogers, Hero Designer Alec Dawson along with Storyline Lead Gavin Jurgens, who gave us some great information about Ramattra, the upcoming Tank class coming on December 6th. and let's get started.
We're excited to see our new hero, but tell us more about him?
Author Gavin Jurgens: Surely you have already seen the trailer of the game's story, however Ramattra is trying to solve the chaos in the Omnic people and trying to save them at any cost, he grew up among these organizations since he was young and tired of patience and will to change all this to get rid of the tragedies that his people face.
You guys do a great job introducing the characters, but what are their skills and abilities on the battlefield?
Designer Hero Alec Dawson: I know everyone wants to know what Ramattra offers, but I can tell you about some of them, the skills with this hero have two molds or two modes, the first is Omnic and the second is Nemesis, since the first depends on the support and protection of the team, for Nemesis they focus on the attack to make The enemies are coming back, but you have to be careful because in this mode you will become a big target, and that's where your team comes in to protect you too.
As you said, there are two sides to Ramattra, but which is better with our new hero?
Hero Designer Alec Dawson: The new hero we designed to be in the middle of all the heroes of Overwatch 2, but Ramattra has many means to protect his team during battles, but that does not mean that he will not fight, in time of need he must use his fighting skills to protect his team, eliminating the opponent.
Will we see a connection between the new map in Overwatch 2 and Rome, and its health?
Artistic Director Dion Rogers: Yes, we will see a visual harmony between the new hero and the next map and we will tell everyone how this harmony occurs, and he replied Hero Designer Alec Dawson: I can't tell you the exact numbers, but I can tell you that he has a huge health in enemy mode and we are trying to put that in visual contact so that the opponent understands that Ramattra is now in this scary mode.
Why are you bringing a new Tank character and it didn't take long for the junker queen?
Hero Designer Alec Dawson: We already have plans to add more heroes across all roles, and the reason you're talking about this is because we've seen how cool it is during the development period and we'd love to reveal it and release it with the launch of Overwatch Season 2, and we think it's a good time to bring in a new Tank.
It seems difficult to switch between the two modes with Ramattra, right?
Hero Designer Alec Dawson: The change is not difficult, but sometimes we have tricky questions, nemesis mode can be a weak point in itself because you will be a big target, and when you switch between the two modes, your team must understand that you must be protected at the time.
Will the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass be hero-focused or as generic as Season 1?
Artistic Director Dion Rogers: We've already drawn some correlation between skins and cosmetics inspired by the wild futuristic worlds of “cyberpunk”.
Why would we choose Ramattra over any other Tank like Junker Queen?
Hero Designer Alec Dawson: As I said Ramattra will have two modes and that is what makes him stand out from the rest, his character is a leader who will need to hide behind him because he will protect him, and in time of need he will fulfill his task of fighting against the opponent.
How did you develop the characters for Overwatch 2?
Hero Designer Alec Dawson: Let's move on to the very beginning part of the whole process, we sit down and brainstorm and choose a skill set and then we create some demo sessions for the character, it takes anywhere from 7 to 40 weeks to develop the hero's skills, we always think about how to make the character great.
Will the new hero have two Ultimates for the first time in Overwatch??
Hero Designer Alec Dawson: Having two character modes does not mean there are Ultimate abilities, the hero will have an Ultimate and you will need to stay away from him when doing this move.
What was the hardest part about building and developing characters in Overwatch?
Artistic Director Dion Rogers: The hardest part of choosing a character and defining a nationality for them is building their culture. We have to do a lot of research into the environment that surrounds the character and build the culture that has been established since their childhood. It’s even harder when we’re creating a character that isn’t from our own culture, but our developers from all over the world help us with this and introduce us to their culture.
Will we see exclusive cosmetic items featuring our hero in a group like Watchpoint?
Artistic Director Dion Rogers: It's too deep to talk about right now, but we have a lot to offer on this subject, so you'll see a lot more soon.
It seems that the most important or most wanted questions about the character have been answered, but we will surely see more and what is hidden in the second season of Overwatch 2, the game is available completely free to play on home platforms and PC, and tell us what you think about the new hero and what you expect from him.
