The developer of the AetherSX2 emulator for Android phones says it no longer makes sense to continue working on a hobby that is no longer fun.

Developer Tahlreth, who is working on completing the development of the PlayStation 2 emulator for Android devices, has announced the complete cessation of development of the application due to impersonation, numerous complaints and demands, as well as numerous online death threats. Where the developer is via the application page:

Because of constant imitations, complaints and demands, and now death threats, I'm done.

You can still download and use the app and it will continue to work for the foreseeable future.

AetherSX2 was always meant to be a fun hobby for me, not for profit. It doesn't make sense to continue working on a hobby that is no longer fun. Thanks everyone

Developer Tahlreth has warned players about scammers all over the web, and confirmed that there are many of them, and gave the example of several people on different social networks impersonating him.

AetherSX2 is a very limited and free option for playing PS2 games on mobile phones, and the developer of the closed-source DamonPS2 app has reportedly been accused of stealing the source code by the team behind the free, open-source PS2 emulator.

The build-up to the developer's decision to stop working on the app has also seen several people on the |EmulatiotnonAndroid subreddit express their deep concern over the pressure the AetherSX2 developer has had to deal with as he has been inundated with user demands, including releasing a version of the emulator on Apple's closed iOS system, and eventually having his Discord channel taken down.
