In a new statement from Naughty Dog, the team has spoken about the differences between their game series, The Last of Us, and the Resident Evil series. Anyone who thinks that the first series was copied from the second is mistaken, or so the development team believes.
The gaming community sees the Resident Evil series as the cornerstone of horror games, specifically those centered around zombies. But the recent trend in the series has become more inclined towards the element of action and surprise, so is it similar to The Last of Us?
Neil Druckmann gave an interview yesterday to The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the upcoming series. During which he also went on to talk about the possibility of developing a third installment, as we have attached here. But he was asked about the similarity between the studio's title and the Resident Evil series, and he had this to say:
We wanted to do the opposite of Resident Evil, which is a series I love, but it's very exaggerated, especially in some stages, like fighting giant spiders and everything related to enemy diversity.
What if it was about intimacy and exploring the unconditional love that parents feel for their children and the beautiful things that can come out of that and the really terrible things that can come out of that? That's what our show is about.
What Druckmann meant was that both series had the same genre, but both had very different stories. For example, the Resident Evil series is about a specific virus and how the enemies are varied and so on. While the TLoU series is about protecting the boys and the emotional relationship between a father and his daughter in these exceptional circumstances.
It was also revealed that The Last of Us has sold nearly 37 million units, making it the third best-selling title in Sony and PlayStation exclusive history. Do you agree with Druckmann's take on the difference between the series and the Resident Evil series?
