With EA Sports officially dropping the FIFA name, it looks like the company is gearing up to do a few things to maintain its status as the most popular football title in the industry right now. The Premier League is reportedly set to finalize a major deal with the publisher to make the new EA Sports FC title stand out like any other part of the industry without any impact.
Exclusive deals are now EA Sports's way of acquiring some clubs to make up for the loss of the title, according to Sky Sports. The deal includes around 20 English Premier League clubs, including top clubs Manchester and Liverpool. It has also been reported that the deal is intended to bring in around £80 million annually.
According to Sky Sports sources, the Premier League and publisher have a long history of working with the FIFA title, dating back to the late 1990s and 1998. It was recently reported that the company has struck deals with the world's biggest leagues to feature its leading game EA Sports FC.
The reason for the loss of the FIFA brand dates back to 2021. EA hinted that the governing body of football players (FIFA itself) asked the developer for $1 billion over four years to obtain the rights to the title. As a result, both parties decided to part ways, and FIFA 23 ended up being the final title of this partnership. With the acquisition of the publisher and its pursuit of agreements with most of the clubs, the publisher loses its participation in the World Cup, which remains under FIFA's supervision.
