Death Stranding 2 was recently announced with a new trailer at The Game Awards 2022, confirming that several characters from the previous game's main cast will be returning in the sequel.
Newcomers Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna will be joining the cast, while Norman Reedus, Lea Seydox, and Troy Baker will also reprise their roles. However, it appears that at least one character from the first game will not be returning for the sequel.
Heartman was a minor character in Death Stranding, and while his character model was based on the likeness of Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, the character is voiced by Darren Jacobs, and according to a report, Heartman will unfortunately not be returning. Jacobs recently revealed that as of now, he has no role to play in the sequel.
Interestingly, he's since deleted those tweets, so there's a chance the character's involvement in Death Stranding 2 isn't something that's been agreed upon yet. But what does seem to be agreed upon recently is Kojima Productions' work on a Death Stranding movie, which is now in the works.
Genius Kojima still has at least two projects he's working on, the first being a mysterious horror game project he believes will be called Overdose. As for the second project, it's a cloud game that's being worked on in cooperation with Microsoft exclusively for the company's cloud platform.
From the analysis we have obtained recently, we are fully aware that the game will provide a visual experience that surpasses what dazzled us with the first part, but it seems that Kojima, through the impressive studio Guerrilla Decima Engine, wants to raise the standards of character designs and the movement system to another level, exploring the MetaHumans technology presented in Unreal Engines.
For those who don't know much about MetaHumans technology, it is a technology introduced within Unreal Engine 5 that allows developers to design realistic characters, especially when it comes to facial features and expressive movements.
Toy Death Stranding 2 is currently being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 5, while the game's release date, which we expect to be sometime in 2023, has not been revealed.
