As we saw in the Resident Evil 4 demo, something big awaits us

Resident Evil 4 Remake is one of this year's most anticipated titles. The game has been compared to a remake of games we've been waiting for for years. We have Dead Space, for example, which was released this month to great acclaim. But I'm here today to talk about the upcoming remake and what we saw at the State of Play.

Resident Evil 4 Remake tells the story of Leon Kennedy, who travels to a mountainous region of Spain called Valdelobos to rescue the president's daughter, Ashley. Early announcements about the game hinted at significant and noticeable changes to the gameplay, but many players wondered what kind of changes and other developments would be in store.

The gameplay in the remake will be darker than the original, intended to create a more horror-like feel, but this is actually a bit misleading, as the developer confirmed the presence of the action, which is what I actually saw in the last presentation. Leon's fighting style will be more elusive than before, as the knife fights remain. Although it's good to hear that Ashley will also be solo, a bit different from the original.

Unfortunately, no details about her gameplay were revealed, but based on expectations and the pace Capcom is following with the new remix, it seems there will be new mechanics that will distinguish "Ashley" from "Leon" in some cases. It was also confirmed that there will be significant changes to the story and gameplay, as there are other mechanics that you won't find in this version. The QTE system will be completely removed from the game (it's the player's quick response system when pressing certain buttons that appear on the screen).

This system, according to Capcom's licenses, is outdated and won't simulate the new gameplay that Resident Evil 4 Remake will introduce. For example, the fight with Krauser was full of QTEs, but with the development of the remake, the fight will be more epic than just mashing a few buttons during a cutscene.

Confirmed Changes About Resident Evil 4 Remake

  • The village will be larger than the original version.
  • There are fewer Quick Time Events that will require you to act quickly.
  • The player will receive “snake meat” instead of eggs when killing snakes.
  • Unfortunately, Calm Hookman will not be in the remake.
  • You won't be able to finish the game with a knife, one of the game developers tried that and failed.
  • New Game Plus confirmed.
  • The Las Plagas virus will emerge from the heads of some enemies, as in the original version.
  • Confirm the presence of the “blind” enemy Garrador & Regenerators with sharp claws.
  • Ashley has become an excellent companion in place of her annoying counterpart in the original game. The team also plans to release the remake for future generations.
  • The game cannot be played in first perspective.
  • Krauser is in the game, with a larger version and a larger role. It was also confirmed that the last chapter of the original version was in the remake.
  • The co-pilot's phase is present in the remake, while his role is now larger. In addition, the characters of the two police officers from the beginning of the game have been recreated in an incredible way, with a simple story for each of them.
  • Confirm the existence of the photo taking phase.
  • Ada's phase is present and her role has become larger in the remake.

In fact, all these new mechanics and gameplay confirm that Capcom's sole intention is to deliver a truly action-packed game, immersing the player in what they'll do during their crazy journey through the Spanish countryside. Resident Evil 4 will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PC on March 24.
