The Steam store has a feature called Family Sharing that allows you to add ten accounts to your account that can access your library full of games, such as the shooter Modern Warfare 2.
Only one person could play the same game at any given time until yesterday. Because you could have done that with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but that feature was quietly disabled with the game on Steam.
According to the website EurogamerPlayers saw last night's "Exclude from Family Sharing" update, which means that any guests they've added will no longer be able to access the game through their library, and for players who relied on Family Sharing to play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, this means that any player who wants the game should simply buy it.
It's unclear why the feature was removed, and Activision has yet to comment on the update at this point or even Steam. The player count is still hovering around 209,000 active players, which is only about 60,000 fewer since launch.
This isn't the only problem that has pushed people out Modern Warfare 2 Players who use unauthorized software have been banned unintentionally. And if you do, you risk getting banned permanently.
As for the future of the series, reliable leaker The Ghost of Hope is back to confirm that Call of Duty 2024 is currently in development. And Vanguard and Black Ops developer Treyarch is working on it, confirming that the upcoming title will be supported over the course of two years, meaning there likely won't be a new installment in 2025.
