Bloober Team has confirmed that it feels a lot of pressure to live up to expectations at the Silent Hill 2 Remake presentation.
Konami has finally announced the revival of the second installment of the psychological horror series, Silent Hill 2, in collaboration with the talented Polish studio Bloober Team, which gave us great games like The Medium, Layers of Fear and Blair Witch.
During an exclusive interview with Dread XP, the Marketing Director said: Anna Jasiska Winning the team's dream project among the many nominated studios made them very happy, but at the same time scared.
What we didn't know before was that in 2019, Bloober Team was invited by Konami to participate in the Tokyo Game Show, where the publisher asked the studio to design a modern revival of the game. Jessica said:
Of course, we weren't the only contenders. Many other studios were also vying for the opportunity, but in the end, it was our imagination that stole Konami's heart. They recognized our commitment and passion for horror, and that alone was a huge differentiator for us.
She added that the studio team was thrilled and surprised when they were hired to develop Silent Hill 2 Remake, but at the same time, they were pressured to perform a dual task of preserving the game's foundations while simultaneously infusing it with modern elements and introducing it to both an ancient and a new society. She added:
For those who are scared, yes, the pressure is on because we're dealing with one of the best psychological horror games of all time. We want to stay as close to the original text as possible and will continue to highlight it in the coming years.
Unreal Engine 5 will be used to rebuild the game, where an over-the-shoulder camera orientation will be adopted while the new developer will take over the entire combat system.
The developer added that they will try to adhere to the basics of the game as much as possible and if there are any changes, they will be applied very carefully.
We're focused on bringing the iconic, visceral atmosphere back to Silent Hill 2. Longtime fans shouldn't worry about losing ground as we bring the title to life. We've faithfully followed the traditional storyline while reworking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up. These are the reasons Konami approved us for the remake in the first place.
It seems the developers at Bloober Team are facing a real test between satisfying seasoned players who understand the core elements that made Silent Hill 2 so special, and new players looking for modern style and graphics, as well as improved combat.
Silent Hill 2 Remake is expected to launch exclusively on PlayStation 5, with no release date specified at the time of writing.
