Armored Core 6 will not have a co-op story mode

FromSoftware has spoken at length about the premise and expectations for Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon, the next installment in a series we haven't seen in a while. The game isn't an open-world or Souls-style game, but rather a focus on dynamic gameplay customization. We know a single-player campaign is coming, but what about co-op?

Previous Armored Core titles have been more focused on competitive multiplayer, so will that be eliminated in Armored Core 6? Nope. Director Masaru Yamamura has said that Versus mode will return with the promise of more details to come. Speaking to IGN Japan, he confirmed that “players will be able to show off and have fun competing against each other.” Unfortunately, there won’t be any co-op modes in the story.

On the other hand, in the story mode, which is the main part of the game, we chose not to include co-op because we want to emphasize the dynamic mode, the individual free play and the active changes you can make during the missions. We focus on the intense experience that is only possible in single player mode.”

It's an interesting choice, but it's not the first time the developer has gone down this path. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice had no co-op modes and was still a fun experience. From a competitive standpoint, that balance continues to be seen in Versus mode, and therefore in PvP.

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon will release in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
