After Sony boycott, Microsoft and Nintendo's absence from upcoming E3 2023 expo spells doom

When talking about a world-famous event related to the field of video games, the first thing that comes to mind is the E3 event, which has always been the most important event for companies, as we have witnessed through it the biggest announcements related to this industry throughout time.

Following the cancellation of last year's 2022 show, it was announced that the E3 show would be revived with a new look, as the E3 2023 show will be held virtually this year with a new production partner known as ReedPop, and will span four consecutive days that will be split between developers and publishers on one hand, and the public and media on the other.

The Los Angeles show is set to open its doors for the first time since 2019 at its usual home at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and we'll also see a change to the event's regular schedule.

Sony surprised us in the past by apologizing for participating in the E3 2019 showcase event, skipping the E3 2020 showcase for the second time in a row, and continuing with the same policy and announcing that it would not participate in the E3 2021 showcase events either, and so we have become accustomed to Sony's absence from the event, although we still do not know the mystery surrounding Sony's decisions to this day.

No one can deny that the absence of Sony alone greatly affected the popularity of the expo, and perhaps it affected it even more when the event went digital during the pandemic period, and with the expected neglect of many big companies from the event like EA and Sony as happened previously, many previous reports have stated that this year's event will also witness the absence of Microsoft, the uncertain company, and the absence of Nintendo, as confirmed by one of the sources, after they were among the remaining saviors of the expo's popularity.

E3 2023

Several sources, most notably IGN, spoke of persistent frustrations with the expo's organizer, the ESA, over the past three years. The sources said the organizer had handled the E3 brand very poorly over the years.

Microsoft will skip the E3 2023 event

Microsoft, which is considered one of the most important pillars of this exhibition, is expected to be absent from the exhibition based on several previous reports, the most important of which was the tweet by journalist Andy Robinson, who confirmed through his Twitter account that the reason for Microsoft's absence from the fair is the reduction in the company's marketing budget as it seeks to reduce its expenses and the reduction in the budget allocated to the marketing department, given that we recently saw the dismissal of a large part of its employees.

Microsoft revealed during the recent episode of Developer_Direct that it will be holding its own event in Los Angeles around the same time, and if reports are correct and it's not part of E3 2023, Xbox will be hosting its own event around the same time.

In any case, it may be too early to reveal the companies that will be present at the fair and announce their activities and conferences, but we hope that the fair organizers manage to persuade the big companies that publish and develop video games to return after being cut, especially Sony, which means a lot for those waiting for the exhibition.

If it did not succeed, and the three major companies were absent, do we consider that this is the true end of the exhibition after having been in a critical phase in recent years?
