Hours after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) decided to file a lawsuit against Microsoft, the company responded that it was ready to present its case in court and fight for it.
The US regulator said on Thursday it is seeking to block the $68.7 billion deal because it believes it would allow Microsoft to “suppress competitors” to its Xbox platform, its monthly Game Pass service and its cloud gaming service.
In the first official response to this decision, the head of Microsoft said Brad Smith The company is confident in its position and will try to prove that the deal was not against the competition. It added:
We continue to believe that this agreement will expand competition and create more opportunities for gamers and developers. We have been committed from day one to addressing competition concerns, including by submitting proposed concessions to the Federal Trade Commission earlier this week.
While we believe in giving peace a chance, we have full confidence in our cause and welcome the opportunity to present our case in court.
Smith added that he is confident that this deal will be completed despite all these obstacles, pointing out that the claim that this deal is anti-competitive does not correspond to the facts.
