Game Director Announced Hideo Kojima Last night, we announced that a movie, Death Stranding, is in production, and the film will be based on the story of the famous game.
Kojima confirmed Thursday that he has entered into an executive production partnership with Hammerstone Studios. Alex Lipovici to produce the new film.
According to a report published by Deadline, the film's budget will be supported by Hammerstone, while it will be produced in cooperation between Hammerstone and Kojima Productions. Alan Ungar assignment as executive producer of the film.
Commenting on the announcement and collaboration, Kojima said:
I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the title and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them to bring Death Stranding to the big screen.
While Lipovici commented:
We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with the brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first feature film. Unlike other big-budget TV games, this will be something more intimate and static. Our goal is to redefine what a film based on a video game can be when given creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an original production by Hideo Kojima.
What is ambiguous so far is the actors who will play the roles in the film and whether they are the same actors who played the same roles in the game. I mean, will we see Norman Reedus, Mad Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro and Margaret Qualley in the film? While this is the intuitive logic, but if the budget of the film is lower than expected, as Lebovici hinted, we don't think all these big characters will be present in the film.
It is worth noting that the game Death Stranding was released in its first part on PlayStation 4 in 2019, and the second part was announced earlier this month without a specific release date.
Additionally, Death Stranding hasn't gotten any specific dates for when production will begin or when it will premiere, but with Kojima busy with the second part of the game, we don't expect to see the movie anytime soon.
