It seems that Sony will not only focus on its own exclusives, but also intends to expand that focus to include third-party games. The company has shown that it wants to make PlayStation devices the best place to play all games of any kind, exclusive or non-exclusive.
Sony isn't just focused on making first-party games a high-quality experience for PlayStation owners, it also wants to make its hardware the best place to play when it comes to third-party offerings. According to Sean Benson, the company's head of acquisitions, there's room for them to do anything.
Shawn gave an interview to GamesIndustry.biz, in which he spoke about the company's vision for the future regarding the PlayStation brand and its devices. where he said:
There's room for exclusives where it makes sense, but the focus really, especially with a digital distribution model that's more prevalent than in past generations, is that there are different types of gameplay.
he added Benson It’s more important to make the PlayStation version of a game better than any exclusive deal. The question remains: what kind of innovation can they apply with the technologies found in the DualSense or adaptive actuators? What can they do with 3D audio in future game sound design, etc.?
Then, Benson added that there are a lot of things they can do and then create marketing stories, and that's what third-party companies are looking for. Perhaps Benson is referring to the upcoming PlayStation devices here, as it's the next generations that will realize Sony's future vision.
The company still has a lot in its arsenal, especially with the presence of engineer Mark Cerny, always creative when designing the company's devices and technologies.
