This number makes the last episode of the series break the number that was recorded until the previous episode 8, which registered 8.1 million views.

On the other hand, the House of the Dragon series was watched by 9.99 million for episode 1, 10.2 million for episode 2, and 9.3 million for the final episode. This represents a drop of 6.9%. While the viewership for the final episode of the series was affected because it was leaked online two days before its premiere.

Of course, these numbers only refer to the series' viewership during its first night of broadcast. While Warner Bros. noted that while the first episode had 4.7 million viewers the night it aired, that number is now closer to 40 million viewers in the United States alone, thanks to the HBO Max on-demand service.

When viewership ratings are factored in, House of the Dragon averaged 29 million viewers per episode. It remains to be seen whether The Last of Us can surpass that number over time.
