During the currently ongoing hearing between Microsoft and the FTC, Microsoft stated that Sony is expected to release the PlayStation 6 in 2028.

Among the agreements Microsoft reached with Sony is a 10-year agreement, which it indicated guarantees the release of Activision titles on the next generation of PlayStation platforms. Microsoft stated the following in its statements during the hearing:

This offer will, in any case, extend beyond the planned launch date for the next generation of consoles (in 2028). Consequently, Call of Duty will be released on the following PlayStation consoles if released during the term of the agreement. The agreement will also ensure that Call of Duty games are offered on PlayStation at the same level as on Xbox.

We don't know what Microsoft's proposal that the PlayStation 6 will be released in 2028 was based on, but it appears that Microsoft also plans to release the next generation of Xbox devices on the same date.

This isn't the first time there's been talk about the possibility of launching the next generation of PlayStation devices in 2028. As there were secret documents that surfaced during defense sessions as part of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision, which confirmed that the next generation of PlayStation devices will be launched in 2028.

In the same context, new documents revealed that Sony does not intend to send PlayStation 6 device data to Activision developers if the deal goes through. This is to maintain the strict confidentiality of the innovative technologies that will be present in the device and in the competing team's system.

If the new generation of home platforms is released this year, this means that their standard lifespan will be 8 years, an expected period identical to the standard lifespan of previous devices.
