Recently, a report from one of the media outlets appeared regarding the status of the PlayStation 5 device vertically, which the source claimed would cause the system to fail due to Liquid Metal leaking from its designated location.

We have determined through a special investigation to provide clear evidence indicating that this issue is impossible to occur as long as the device is not opened, as Sony uses complex protection techniques to ensure that material does not leak out of its housing, and you can view the full investigation here.

Today, the party that raised this controversy once again apologized and explained the misunderstanding that occurred as a result of the incorrect transfer of information from the source, to confirm that this problem cannot occur as long as the device is not opened by non-professionals. The following was stated in the media statements:

There was a serious misunderstanding on our part when we thought TheCod3r said the Liquid Metal issue occurred on a PS5 that was closed inside the box. What he said (and meant) was that the PS5 (the actual console!) had not been opened by other repair shops before him.

The problem is still AFAIK, but there is *no* evidence of this happening on the consoles that were in the box. This part was a complete misunderstanding on our part. The damage is done, but I've updated the article.

If, as you can see from the source statements, the information was transferred from the experience of one of the users in the wrong way, and the matter was corrected.

When can placing the PlayStation 5 vertically cause damage?

There is one reason that can cause Liquid Metal to leak from its designated place, which is opening the device or trying to repair it by non-professionals.

This could result in the loss of the safety factors we discussed in the investigation here, either by causing damage to the spongy material surrounding the processor unit or by causing the tightly installed heat sink to loosen and thus creating gaps through which conductive liquid metal could leak if a PlayStation 5 device is used in an upright position.

Will you be using your PlayStation 5 in portrait mode now, or are you still unsure and keeping it in landscape mode?
