Electronic Arts has just announced that it will stop selling its “tangible” physical games in some European countries. How will it start selling games in these countries only with digital versions?
This initiative comes from Electronic Arts due to the poor sales of its physical games in the countries we will mention. The company will no longer supply physical copies of games to the German, Austrian and Swiss markets. Instead, the company will only sell games in these countries digitally.
The company also said it expects a sharp decline in revenue from physical game sales during the next fiscal quarter. In an interview with Games Wirtschaft with a representative of the aforementioned company, he said that the gap that occurred in the gaming world and resulted in players switching from purchasing physical copies to digital ones, caused it to carry out the so-called “economic restructuring.”
As a result of the restructuring, the company has decided not to sell tangible copies of its games in markets where the percentage of sales of these games is low. The implementation of this decision will begin from the project that will be released after the upcoming NFS Unbound game, which means that the latter will be available in the mentioned markets in both physical and digital version.
Of course, there are other companies that preceded the aforementioned company, and in the future it is said that the industry will only sell digital. The reasons for this trend are due to the economic situation as being “more” as well as the demands of the players.
Do you prefer to keep games in their physical or digital versions, and why..?
