The South Korean holding company Krafton, responsible for PUBG, has created what it calls "the first Canadian studio dedicated to AAA games," located in Montreal. It is now open for employment in many positions within it.

We previously learned that PUBG publisher Krafton will continue investing in flagship titles despite the weak sales of its latest game, Callisto Protocol. In fact, the Korean company has opened the first Canadian game studio specializing in AAA titles.

The studio will also be called Krafton Montréal Studio, and will be led by Patrik Méthé, a former director at Ubisoft Montréal. He has directed major games such as Far Cry 3, 4, 5, and New Dawn, as well as last year's Rainbow Six Extraction.

The studio plans to hire 150 more people over the next three years in key positions, including animation, programming, and human resources, while the studio's first project will be a video game based on the Korean fantasy novel series The Bird that Drinks Tears.

Commercially, Krafton's first AAA game, Callisto Protocol, underperformed. However, the publisher confirmed at its 2023 team meeting that it has fulfilled its commitment to expanding its core game portfolio. It will also enhance its global publishing capabilities and invest in Web3 and deep learning technology.
