EA has canceled its investment in Project Cars 4 and the entire series. It is currently considering the fate of over 150 developers who were working on the game.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, EA made this decision internally, after evaluating the series' performance and finding it to be underwhelming. The company acquired Codemasters last year, which is why it found it difficult to focus on more than one racing project at a time.
It is also said that the last third of the series did not do well in international markets. A spokesperson for the company is reported to have confirmed that the decision was very difficult. But it would help to be able to focus on developing titles that create a unique experience for the player. As for EA's official statement, the following was stated in response to EA's decision:
EA is exploring opportunities to expand its racing franchises into “more social leadership with long-term live services.”
We intend to engage the community in these benefits for many years after launch.
On the other hand, employees will be distributed to other studios, such as Criterion and Codemasters, after the acquisition of the latter by EA announced its intention to become a leader in racing games.
The company said this We are working with everyone impacted by this decision to place them in appropriate roles within the EA Sports and Racing community. Our priority right now is to provide as much support as possible to our employees through this transition.
We remind you that Need For Speed Unbound is the company's latest title, which will be released on the 2nd of next month on current devices and PC.
