European Commission orders Epic Games and Fortnite to return to Apple Store

Apple's dispute against Fortnite developer Epic Games is one of the most famous and controversial in the gaming and technology industry in general, as the former banned the latter's app from appearing in the iOS online store and the matter was transferred to the European Commission, which intervened significantly.

Recently, a new digital markets law came into effect that ensures open and fair digital markets, which led the European Commission to intervene between Apple and Epic Games over the current developments between them.

Fortnite developer beats Apple

Apple this week made updates to comply with Europe's Digital Markets Act, which aims to limit the power of big tech companies. Those changes include allowing developers to create their own app stores, through which other apps can be distributed.

However, Epic said last Wednesday that Apple had removed its developer account on iPhones, making it impossible for it to create its own App Store. Epic indicated that Apple violated the agreements by doing so, but Apple responded strongly that Epic did not… It is trustworthy and has the right to close its account whenever it wants. But the European Commission has a different opinion on this matter, as it ordered Epic to return to the Apple Store, as the latter said, quoted by The Guardian:

“After discussions with Epic, they have committed to following the rules, including our policies in line with the Digital Markets Act. As a result, Epic Switzerland AB has been authorized to re-sign the Developer Agreement and has been accepted into the Apple Developer Program.”

This means the return of the Epic app to the Apple Store and the return of Fortnite as well. What do you think of Epic's victory over Apple after a long battle?
