The Bloater Monster Scene Appearing in The Last of Us Was Powerful and Horrifying

During the fifth episode of The Last of Us, we got our first look at the giant Bloater monster. It was even bigger than Phaedra's giant armadillo, while the rest of the clickers looked like ants around it.

To perceive: The scenes in the video below, and some of the details in this report may be (burning) the most important scenes in the series, so you should be warned.

First of all, I want to congratulate the production and directing team for the incredible way the Bloater monster appeared from the pit and its way of attacking the human Phaedra fighters. But the other scene that we didn't expect to reach this level of brutality and gore is the murder of the heavily armed "Berry".

series director Craig Mazin he said during a podcast The Last of Us Podcast His focus from the beginning was Bloater attacking Perry and cutting him in half, before throwing him aside.

That was something I was overly ambitious about. Where I wanted to split Perry's body in half at the waist. Neil was like, well, well, I mean, would that be realistic? My answer was, "I guess so." And then every time a special effects guy tries to do that, the more I realize that the waist can't be ripped in that way on humans. It's very difficult to do.

In the end, Craig abandoned his idea, which was more horrific than what we saw in the fifth episode of the series, responding to the perception of game director Neil Druckmann, who had a more realistic vision of the final scene. Mazen added:

The final scene was close. But in the end Neil prevailed and was right to point out which anatomical aspect would be most functional and realistic. And then, of course, Bloater had this scene that is so creative, so wonderful, so scary…

This scene could be a hint that we will be in for a meeting with more emotional scenes in the remaining four episodes.

We'll be back at 5am next Monday morning with the sixth episode of the series, which will take us this time to the city of Jackson. You can check out the premiere of the next episode here, along with some of the details we were able to glean from the show's scenes.
