We'll see co-op gameplay elements in Cyberpunk 2077 gradually added

Prior to Cyberpunk 2077's release, CD Projekt RED had been talking about a multiplayer mode set in the same world, but after the disastrous launch, CEO Adam Kisinski revealed last year that the studio had reconsidered the multiplayer version. Instead, the plan is to gradually add some multiplayer action to both the Cyberpunk and Witcher franchises.

Philip Weber, Cyberpunk 2077's lead quest designer who is also the narrative director for the next installment of The Witcher, provided more details to Eurogamer about why the multiplayer mode wasn't released. "We really needed to look at the priorities for Cyberpunk post-launch. The priority was to get the core experience in good shape.

Essentially, the shift in priorities meant that other R&D projects had to be shut down. With Cyberpunk, we wanted to do multiple things at once, and we only needed to focus on one thing… what was the important part? Yes, we’re going to make our core experience really good.

Thankfully, the game’s situation is completely different after two full years of revision. He believes the reason for releasing the Game of the Year edition is to remake it the way it was meant to be. Will you be buying the new version when it comes out next year…?

There's still plenty to look forward to for fans of the title, such as the paid expansion Phantom Liberty, which will be released in 2023. Cyberpunk 2077 will also receive a Game of the Year Edition after that, along with more free updates, such as a revamped police system and melee combat. A new segment, codenamed Orion, is also in development and will require 350 to 500 developers while the main team moves to Boston.
