Fortnite's most popular battle royale players are experiencing the latest and most exciting events in the recently released Chapter 4 Season 1, as the game officially uses all-new Unreal Engine 5.1 technologies.
Digital Foundry has shared a new video with us highlighting the most important features that the new version of the engine has brought to the game on the PC version and on the new PS5 and Xbox Series consoles.
The video below shows the differences between enabling the most important features of Unreal Engine 5, which are digital construction techniques and new reflections nanite And the Lumen.
Unreal Engine 5 Technologies in Fortnite
- Nanite's new stereoscopic technology.
- Lumen new lighting technology.
- Virtual Shadow Maps Technology.
- Super temporal resolution technology.
Nanite Technology in Fortnite
Nanite’s new digital construction technology delivers highly detailed architecture. Specifically, buildings are rendered from millions of polygons in real time, and every brick, stone, slat, and wall decoration is modeled.
In addition, the landscapes also feature high-definition details. A single tree contains about 300,000 polygons, and each stone and flower of grass is designed separately.
What about the new Lumen technology?
Lumen reflections provide high-quality rays reflected off shiny surfaces and water. This technology provides real-time global illumination while maintaining a rendering rate of 60 frames per second.
You’ll see beautiful interiors with light reflecting off surfaces, as well as characters interacting with the lighting around them. For example, red carpets can reflect a red light onto their personality. Additionally, clothing with emissive qualities, such as shiny clothing, reflects light onto nearby objects and surfaces.
