Although Rockstar announced that it would drop support for Red Dead Redemption 2 and online development and stop providing large content, it recently witnessed a new record on Steam.
Three years after its release on the PC platform, Red Dead Redemption II has surpassed its peak number of active concurrent players. This is according to what was spotted on SteamDB, where yesterday afternoon the game registered around 66,492 concurrent players at the same time.
This new player record is higher than the number achieved after the game launched on the Steam store on December 26, 2019, when we reached 55,000 concurrent players. Unfortunately, there is no data available for player activity on other consoles, although the game is heavily discounted.
The number of players increased significantly to 20,000 players since November 22, tracked by SteamDB, then the number jumped again to 29,700, then to 41,600 players on November 24, and during Black Friday it rose to 49,000, and finally the number of players players reached concurrent users to over 66,492 users on November 27, 2022.
The game is currently 67% off during the Steam Autumn Sale. This has definitely helped boost the player base for Red Dead Redemption 2. Furthermore, the multiplayer aspect of Red Dead Online is still very popular among players despite being abandoned by Rockstar and its lack of major updates.
We remind our followers that both Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online have managed to achieve total sales of more than 46 million units sold across all platforms. While sales of the entire series have reached more than 70 million copies sold. These figures are based on the latest earnings report for the previous fiscal quarter of publisher Take-Two Interactive, which ended on June 30, 2022.
