With the release of Destiny 2's The Final Shape expansion complete, fans believe a developer has fueled speculation about Destiny 3 with a series of cryptic tweets. Is the team hinting at any upcoming projects beyond the ones already announced?
The Final Shape concludes the sprawling story of Part 2 by placing the player inside the Traveler and facing off against the mysterious The Witness. The expansion is the culmination of ten years of distinct and often intriguing storytelling, and will hopefully provide answers for the game’s player base.
But in previous videos, Bungie developers have indicated that The Final Shape isn't the end of Destiny 2 or even the series, as the now-Sony-owned developer is also working on a multiplayer game called Marathon.
In a series of tweets you can see here marking the release of The Final Shape, the creative director discussed Lucas Smith The road to the expansion's release and the efforts the developers have made to make it happen, but the word Hope was mentioned three times, each in capital letters, which sparked the ire of players over the developer's hint about Destiny 3.
That tweet was enough to get several Destiny creators excited about the future of the series, and there's been plenty of speculation on social media and forums.
The focus is on The Final Shape at the moment and its three planned episodes, with Echoes releasing next week on June 11, The Revenant in October 2024, and Heresy in February 2025, though of course that plan could change, so HOPE could be the word. What the developer mentioned is in reference to the three expansion episodes, so we'll have to wait and see.
