Ubisoft has revealed the NEO NPCs project, which generates NPCs in games enhanced with machine learning technology, or what is known as artificial intelligence, which it says would take its narrative games to another level.
Artificial intelligence has begun to invade the entertainment or even professional fields, and most large companies have begun to apply and use it in most of their work because it guarantees the existence of a product almost free of errors or work with lower costs than using human power. However, of course, this intelligence does not have human feelings, despite its advantages.
However, during the recent GDC, Ubisoft revealed its machine learning project, which it called NEO NPCs. Here's what it said. Ubisoft on this project according to their news post:
“These NPCS are not created by a machine, but by a human writer, who shapes their personality, backstory, and conversational style, and then continues to modify it as the language learning model begins to improvise the dialogue.”
The company further claims that in the near future, players will be able to interact with non-playable characters through voice commands. These characters will also be able to interact with other characters and perform various activities, which will make a product or game full of liveliness and, most importantly, realism.
The other surprising piece of information was that these characters would interact with the player based on the intensity of their voice and would respond to them based on the tone of their voice as well. When the company was asked when they expected to see this project in their games in the future, they said very soon.
Do you encourage the idea of investing artificial intelligence in this way in the gaming industry?
