The Digital Foundry team managed to play The Witcher 3, the next-gen version, for several hours, and it seems that the game has made a qualitative leap, not only at a graphic level, but also at several levels to improve the overall experience.
The team described their experience of the game as follows:
“The Witcher 3 on PS5 and Series X impressed us immensely in the four hours we played – not just with the visual upgrades, which include rebuilt foliage, 4K renders and higher-quality designs. There are also a host of other improvements, such as a revamped camera and quick controls for using gestures and spells. Ultimately, the game looks better than ever.”
The game modes that were made available in the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 were also discussed, namely the quality mode that works in 4K resolution with ray tracing enabled and a frame rate of 30 frames/s. The team witnessed that the quality mode is a transformative mode for many scenes that looked different and significantly better than before.
As for performance mode, where the game runs mostly at 60 frames/s with dynamic 4K resolution, but with Ray Tracing disabled.
The only rare glitch that was noticed during the game's testing is that it witnesses some frame rate drops in some areas when the game is in performance mode. However, this doesn't happen often, although not everyone who uses VRR-compatible displays will notice it.
Features of The Witcher 3 New Generation Edition:
