We’re entering the third year of the PlayStation 5’s lifespan, which is the time since the previous generation got its mid-generation “Pro” devices. As this is happening, Sony is starting to hint that 2023 will be an exciting year for the PlayStation 5 and everyone should look forward to it.
These teasers could open a wide door for speculation about Sony's new device, especially since it has gone through and may still be facing some issues in production and distribution around the world.
Recently, and monitoring the Internet, the PlayStation 5 has begun to appear widely in stores and retail centers, although some markets still complain about its lack of availability. But Sony continues to try to overcome this dilemma continuously, and everything indicates that next year it will have a radical and comprehensive solution to this problem, with more surprises.
Will we have the PlayStation 4 Pro soon?
Recently, there have been many rumors that Sony is preparing to release a new model of the Playstation 5, which may be smaller in size and have a detachable disc drive. This version, according to some unofficial reports, will be the basic one, and all previous models will be replaced by it.
Also, the fact that the PlayStation 4 Pro was released 3 years after the base version was released, and now the PlayStation 5 has reached this standard lifespan, will there actually be a PlayStation 5 Pro?
That's what Famitsu magazine asked Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of SIE Platform Experience, during his talk about the PSVR2 headset and the future of the PlayStation platform. Where he commented:
By the end of fiscal year 2022, cumulative sales will exceed 37 million units, and we believe this will also be a very important moment for the platform. I hope you are looking forward to next year (2023).
The end of fiscal year 2022 will be March 31, 2023, so is Sony planning to release the PlayStation 5 Pro after that date?
Let's set our expectations on Sony's aspirations for the future of its new device over the coming period to see how things might pan out.
Sony Basic Plan!
At the beginning and in the meantime, Sony has set itself a goal, which is to be able to produce the appropriate quantities to meet the high demand in global markets that are still suffering from the lack of availability of the device there. In addition to the lack of production resulting from the shortage and the growing competition for semiconductors, Sony faces logistical problems of shipping and transportation, which it also places on its priorities.
This leads to several directions from Nishino's suggestions, the first of which is the attempt to produce a new version of the PlayStation 5 that is both lower cost and smaller in size. This will make it possible to produce the device in large quantities and at a faster pace. And the fact that the size of the device is smaller will improve and facilitate the shipping and transportation process, as it will provide additional spaces to carry more devices and thus pump more quantities to global markets.
The idea of ditching the drive, which would be optional and separate from the device, may be smart, and it would greatly reduce the size of the device, as well as the production cost, which would be lower. But Sony also has a plan to reduce the size of the internal components and improve their efficiency, which would help further reduce the size of the device.
We don't know what the final size of the new version will be, but can we call it the PlayStation 5 Slim PS5 Slim?
Playstation 5 Pro or Slim?
This makes us put an exclamation mark on the fate of launching a more powerful version of the device, the PlayStation 5 Pro! Especially since these copies of the system are usually larger and have more expensive components. Is now the right time for this trend?

This will make us go in another direction, that is, if Sony plans to launch the PlayStation 5 Pro version, it could be a side model and not a basic one, and it will be offered as a non-essential option for those who want to get more power, but the device will have a high price that can cover the cost of production and shipping.
In any case, if Sony plans to get around the production and shipping logistics problem, the balance may tend to be to produce a copy smaller in size and weight, while preserving the system's technologies identical to the original version. This is what we prefer, given the exceptional circumstances that the industry is going through at the moment. Sony could delay production of the more powerful version of the PlayStation 5 Pro until later in the assumed life of the current generation, until the shipping dilemma is over and global markets are saturated.
Share with us your expectations about what Sony has in store for us during the next year of 2023. Do you think we will actually see the PlayStation 5 Pro or will the company be satisfied with offering a smaller version in size and cost, like the PlayStation 5 Slim, for example?
